How to keep your money secure while traveling? Here’s a few tips for you.

  • Bring only as much money you need for the day. Leave the rest in a safe or other secure place.

  • If you need to move large amounts of money, ask your partner or a friend to bring some of it for you. The likelihood that bad luck will strike both of you is much less.

  • Use a money belt or secured inside pocket. Look for a money belt that can easily be worn over long periods of time, and can be accessed easily and discreetly. If you have an inside pocket, the opening should be closed.
  • Do not change money at the airport. Most tourists are surprised to learn that the worst rates of currency conversion are often counter at the airport as well, this is often where hustlers hang around in search of unwary travelers.
  • When paying for something, especially outdoors or in a market, always pay by a small stash of cash held at the front of the bag, never remove a large amount of cash so that others can see.
  • If in a foreign country, never convert the money with someone who approaches you on the street or trading on the black market. To avoid swindled, always use a reputable money exchange at a bank or a hotel.
