Planning on a trip?  Follow these hotel tips and safety advice, and you’ll be on the safe side.

Whenever you plan to stay at a particular hotel for an extended duration, negotiate the best rate possible with the hotel sales staff. You can usually acquire better rates than regular “corporate” rates.

If you will be working in your hotel room, ask for a room away from the hotel pool area; otherwise, you’ll end up dealing with all the pool disturbance.

If you have a confirmed booking but the hotel has overbooked, you should ask for a free long-distance phone call to notify your authority or family, free transportation to a nearby corresponding hotel, and the first night at that nearby corresponding hotel.

A few most common safety measurements taken in your hotel room can greatly increase the likelihood that your next trip will be without incident. Understand carefully the following and make a note of these tips before your next trip. Stay safe!

  • Locate all the fire exits, lifts and public phones.
  • Always keep the door closed and locked when you are in the room. Check to see that any sliding glass doors or windows and any connecting room doors are locked.
  • Never open your door without first knowing who is behind the door. Call the front desk to verify unexpected deliveries, room service or room repairs.
  • Leave the television or radio on when you leave the room.
  • Don’t place the “require maid service” sign on your door. It may point that you are out of the room.
  • Place all your valuables in the hotel’s safe deposit box and get a written receipt for what you store. Make sure to confirm that the hotel’s insurance will cover your items if stolen.
  • If you see any suspicious activity, please report your observations to the hotel management.
  • Don’t needlessly display guest room keys in public or carelessly leave them on restaurant tables, at the swimming pool or other places where they can be stolen. If you misplace or lose your key, notify the front desk right away.
  • Avoid riding alone in elevators with strangers. Ask the hotel desk for an escort or ride when there are more people in the elevator.
  • Never invite strangers to your hotel room.
  • When returning to your hotel late in the evening, use the main entrance of the hotel.
  • Close the door securely whenever you are in your hotel room and use all of the locking devices provided. Be sure that your room has a deadbolt, a chain, and a regular door lock. Make sure you use all of them before going to bed.
